On May 31st, President Trump tweeted that ANTIFA would be designated as a terrorist organization.  Surfacing in 2007, ANTIFA, or Anti-Fascist, is a militant left-wing activist movement that uses harassment, property damage, and physical violence against any groups they see as fascist, more specifically any conservative-leaning group – and therein lies the oxymoron of their entire movement.

Fascism, as defined my Merriam-Webster, is a movement that “stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.”  That may sound like the 1920’s Italy of Benito Mussolini, and you would be right to think so, as that is where the term originated, and also where the anti-fascist movement began.

Today, our two political parties have very differing ideologies.  The Democrats believe in larger government, which means more government programs controlling your life; while the Republicans believe in smaller government, which means you are forced to sink or swim based on your ability as an individual, without the government helping or standing in the way.  Which of these two ideologies is more “economic and social regimentation,” the very definition of fascism?  The Democrats.  So then if you were truly ANTI-fascist, should you not be against left-wing big government platforms?  Let’s look at ANTIFA:

*2012 in Chicago: Assault of unarmed people in a restaurant with bats and hammers who were meeting for a “European Heritage Group” – in essence, a networking group for people who moved here from Europe to help each other find jobs, assimilate in their communities, etc.  For some reason ANTIFA claimed they were a white supremist hate group.

*2017 at Berkley: Caused $100k worth of damage, throwing Molotov cocktails in protest of conservative speaker Milo Yiannapoulos being booked at Berkely.  Again, Yiannapoulos is a conservative who supports SMALLER government interference -exactly what ANTIFA should support if they were indeed anti-fascist.

*2017 at Berkley: ANTIFA threatens violence at the Patriot Prayer event.  An act so disturbing that even the Democratic Mayor of Berkley, Jesse Arreguin, suggested ANTIFA be classified as a gang.

None of these examples, or any or ANTIFA’s behaviors, show any action against actual fascism.  So let’s take a look at the most fascist thing to happen to our country in the last decade – the Covid-19 lockdown.  The government took control of our movements, our social interaction  and our ability to purchase goods – literally “severe economic and social regimentation.”  Where was ANTIFA?  Why no riots?  Why no protests?  This was and is the definition of fascism.  You know who did protest?  Republicans.  People who are actually against government interference in their lives.  But no ANTIFA.  Why?  Is it because ANTIFA isn’t actually anti-fascist, but anti-Republican?

The irony here is that ANTIFA has an identity crisis.  It doesn’t even know what its own name means.  It supports the fascist-leaning left while calling itself anti-fascist.  If they really want to understand their identity then let me help you.   Physically harming and threatening unarmed people makes you cowards.  Destroying the property of people of innocent people makes you criminals. The unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims makes you terrorists. So is President Trump legally and morally justified in designating them a terrorist organization? Absolutely.
