After months of dubious political tactics Republicans and Democrats have finally agreed upon a Covid relief package. Democrats halted progress on meangingful legislation to be sure no positive praise is reflected back on the Trump administration during the election but now convenientely have found common ground to pass the bill. While the relief package inlcudes stimulus checks, unemployment benefits, and much needed aid to Americans one stipulation is not sitting well with progressive lawmaker Ilhan Omar. As millions of Americans struggle to make ends meet during the pandemic and patiently wait for the highly-sought after vaccine Congress decided to reward themselves with early access to the vaccination.

Ilhan Omar blasted fellow lawmakers decion to get the vaccine ahead of vulnerable communities and frontline workers. Over the weekend, fellow “Squad” member Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was inoculated with the vaccine.

rep. Omar tweeted, “It woud make sense if it was age, but unfortunately it’s of importance and its shameful. We are not more important then frontline workers, techers etc. who are making sacrifices everyday. Which is why I won’t take it. People who need it most, should get it.”

Omar’s comment offered a rare moment of clarity for the progessive Democrat. Across the aisle Republican representative Nancy Mace, who previously tested positive for the virus, echoed the same sentiment that the vaccine must first go to Americans who need it most.

Nancy Mace tweeted, “Congress shouldn’t be putting themselves first in line for the COVID-19 vaccination when the average American can’t get it. For as long as the vaccines are limited, we should prioritize healthcare and frontline workers, and every person at greater risk, especially the elderly.”
