On Sunday, CNN chief domestic correspondent and former White House correspondent for the network claimed Trump Supporters and Fox News are “a threat to our democracy” while speaking as a guest on Inside Sources with Brian Stelter.
Stelter said, “the world seems a little quiet” after President Donald J. Trump was permanently banned from Twitter, asking Acosta if the pause was temporary or if it would start again.
Acosta said, “I mean, I do think what this country faces right now, and you know, I describe it as the disinformation industrial complex. And that is Trump and his people, conservative outlets like Fox News, and then conservative websites and organizations aligned with the president and conservative platforms.”
He added, “These three pillars of this disinformation industrial complex essentially helped put Trump in power, kept him in power, sustained his grip on the Republican Party, and it remains a threat to our democracy,” he said. “It is the reason why there were hundreds of Trump supporters storming the Capitol on January 6.”
During President Donald Trump’s tenure in the White House, he had many encounters with Acosta, where he called the CNN reporter “third-rate,” adding, “You probably have the worst record in the history of broadcasting.”
