An opinion editor at the Huffington Post revealed on Twitter her controversial goal to have less than 50 percent of content published by “white authors.”
“Month two of @HuffPost Opinion is almost done,” tweeted Chloe Angyal, deputy opinion editor for HuffPost. “This month we published: 63% women, inc. trans women; 53% writers of colour.”
In a follow-up tweet, she added, “Our goals for this month were: less than 50% white authors (check!), Asian representation that matches or exceeds the US population (check!), more trans and non-binary authors (check, but I want to do better).”
It’s not clear whether HuffPost may have broken hiring discrimination laws, but one thing is clear: its emphasis on its authors’ race and gender are troubling.
