During my ten years in the music industry, I wrote for many urban artists, including songs that charted on Billboard.
Funny, I was never accused of cultural appropriation for being a white writer composing songs for black artists.
Times have changed, and now Bruno Mars is being accused of that very “crime” — even those he is ethnic (though not black) himself and makes upbeat, positive music.
I wonder where we’re going to draw the line about what constitutes cultural appropriation…
