Actor and Director Alec Baldwin accidentally killed one woman and injured a man with a prop gun while on the set of his new film “Rust.”
The shooting involved actor Alec Baldwin and a prop gun, the prop gun is alleged to have gone off only once and to have fired live ammunition. The round is alleged to have struck two individuals, the film’s director of photography Halyna Hutchins and Director Joel Souza. Halyna Hutchins was tragically confirmed to have been killed in the accidental shooting, Joel Souza was taken to the hospital but it appears now that he will survive. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s department is investigating this matter but no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed.
Alec Baldwin, members of the crew, and other actors are cooperating with the Sheriff’s department. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s department is likely investigating this as an accidental shooting but they are keeping the investigation under tight wraps.
In a public statement Baldwin said “I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.“
This shooting is a tragedy, a young woman died while doing her job. Not only is this shooting a tragedy, but this shooting was entirely preventable.
Here at FullMagNews we work with a lot of firearms, guns are regularly on set for shooting videos and we frequently take photos with firearms. When it comes to mixing cameras and guns some of the rules get bent when it comes to safety, but when this occurs other precautions are taken to ensure something like what happened with Alec Baldwin doesn’t.

When we film episodes of Unloaded with Grace Boatright we take the precaution of removing ammunition from the room we are filming in. Accidental shootings occur as a result of negligence and stupidity, while filming we want to get good shots but that doesn’t mean removing safety from the equation.
We can assume that safety of staff was not the highest priority for the film makers, this death was entirely preventable and several acts of negligence must have occurred for this to have happened on set. Someone on the props team probably loaded live ammunition into the prop gun, the prop gun was likely a real gun and not a prop, no one on the set cleared the gun prior to handing it over to Alec Baldwin, and Alec Baldwin did not clear this gun prior to doing the shot. These are the mistakes likely made for this accident to occur, we can’t say for sure until a full detailed summary comes out from either the creators of “Rust ” or the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department.
The disconnect between Hollywood and the world of firearms is partially to blame for this incident. Alec Baldwin himself is no stranger to filming with guns but he certainly is no fan of them outside of these Hollywood sets. Had Baldwin at least been familiar with firearms he may have cleared the gun himself, if it comes out that he did clear the gun and the mistake was a member of the props team loading live ammunition into the firearm then this mistake is one that cost someone their life and put blood on an innocent man’s hands.
A little boy will never see his mother again because of the mistakes that were made on set, that’s the real tragedy of all this. Someone should be held accountable for what happened, not because it was an accident but because it was a preventable accident.

No such thing with BENT (as you put it) Rules when it comes to the PROPERTY MANAGER on a film set–when filming the HBO Series LUCK every racing form had to be accounted for before any actor/extra received a voucher——–somewhere along the line (as the chain of custody with the murder weapon will prove) someone either switched the weapon or loaded it with REAL lead projectile rounds (perhaps just one?)—
Why in the hell did Alec point a loaded gun (even a cap gun as i was taught as a child, as my father taught me to be respectful of GUNS—no such thing as a toy gun) AT ANYONE? EVEN IN JEST .

I’ve been on many film sets where prop guns, reproductions guns, and such were in use. There is an armorer on set responsible for the condition of the firearms whether real or prop. Those familiar with firearms generally have a healthy respect for firearms because they are dangerous tools. No one knows yet what happened on this set. People make mistakes. Accidents do happen. And sometimes, rarely, evil intent has its moment. I don’t understand why many are so quick to judge and pronounce guilt without the facts.
Maybe this was not an accident, maybe the young lady was pregnant, just speculating on the possibilities…

I have no sympathy for Alec Baldwin whatsoever. He is the biggest arsehole in Hollywood and the way he treats children is abhorring. After his comments about the police shooting criminals, karma came right back and bit him right in the ass. Good enough for the worthless piece of excrement.

The first question should be “Why was there live ammunition on the set at all?”
There is no need for “real” bullets to be there ever.
Second question, “Why call it a misfire when a modern firearm CAN NOT go off unless someone’s finger is on the trigger. If that gun had TWO misfires the previous, why was it not turner over to a gunsmith to determine the cause? Guns do not discharge at random, EVER. Get someone who actually knows how a weapon works to describe what happened and I’m sure that someone tampered with the weapon and then someone actually pulled the trigger. That’s how guns work – no pull trigger, no discharge. It’s really that simple. Any other explanation is a cover up to a horrible death – not an accident.
Have you noticed that they have NOT released the type of gun or its caliber yet. That’s fishy to me. If it was a revolver then this becomes a really strange incident. If it was a semi automatic, the question becomes why was there a cartridge in the chamber with the weapon cocked and ready to fire. Obviously no one on the set knew anything about guns and how they function. Also clearly no one writing about the incident knows anything about weapons and how they work either. Too many errors in the situation and in the reporting. Live ammunition on the set? WHY? Any prints on the shell casings? Who exactly touched the weapon before handing it over to Alec? We need those answers first.
